Low-Cost Multi-touch Whiteboard Using Wii Remote

Using infrared (IR) light pens and the Wii Remote, it is possible to create very low-cost multi-point interactive whiteboards and multi-point tablet displays. Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. Download the software. Great stuff, it is wonderful to see what people can create with technology.

This is so cool, we have a Wii and i have to make this. Right now i’m using a 6′ by 3′ white board and we take pics with our cell phone of it…its not optimal. Johny Chung Lee makes it look easy.

Just for your additional info, you might wanna check out Smootboard software as well since you interested with the wiimote whiteboard. Basically, it resembles what Johnny Lee’s idea. But what makes it different is that Smoothboard allows the usage of 2 wiimote controls simultaneously which allows better tracking and act as a redundancy. This comes to great use when one wiimote is blocked, the other can capture the other point. Besides the 2 wiimotes can use for the Whiteboard and Presenter function.

On top of that, with the latest version of Smoothboard it has now comes out with the in-built annotation features and as well as autoconnect mode.

You can give it a try using its free trial at the following link.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

I want share with you Ardesia to be used with the wiimote
    whiteboard http://code.google.com/p/ardesia/

    It’s free and funny

Ardesia enables you to make colored free-hand annotations on your computer screen, record it and share on the network.

This is especially useful when making presentations, to highlight things or point out things of interest.

The tool facilitates the online presentations and demos showing in real time your computer screen to anyone in the network.

Ardesia is XInput-Aware, so if you have a mouse, a graphic tablet, a touch screen, a wiimote whiteboard or a commercial whiteboard; you can draw lines with different strength, select color, erase things and draw arrows.

You can free-hand draw geometrical shapes using the shape recognizer, insert text with the keyboard and highlight screen areas. You can draw upon the desktop or select an image as background.

This is so cool i want one! it’s so futuristic, i’ve never used an electronic whiteboard before. When he is using the two pens on the bench top it reminds me of a sci-fi movie, it would be awesome in 3D. This would have many applications and now the average consumer can afford it.. nice ๐Ÿ™‚
